Mother Proof Offers Car Advice for Women at Chicago Auto Show
Feb 04 2008
To many women, selecting a vehicle that’s right for them can be an overwhelming process. Not to Kristin Varela, chief mom and senior editor at Mother Proof, a car review site dedicated to helping women and mothers navigate the automotive world based on the features most important to them and their families. Varela and her team of mom-reviewers are taking that advice from the web to the Chicago Auto Show, where they will be on hand to offer female attendees their unique perspective.
At this year’s show, Mother Proof will present the Mama Said Café, a casual, coffee-shop like exhibit that will showcase the website’s picks for the top new family vehicles for 2008 while treating attendees to expert advice, interactive games, free coffee and an interactive kids’ play area. Part of the Chicago Auto Show’s Women’s Day, the event will be held Feb. 12 in the North Building from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
“Women purchase 53 percent of new cars and influence 85 percent of all car sales, but by and large, automotive reviews and car-buying advice is still generated by men and often geared to automotive enthusiasts,” Varela said. “Mother Proof is excited to share our perspective, from one woman to another, in a relaxed and inviting café environment at the Chicago Auto Show. That’s what our site is all about—sharing advice, one girlfriend to another.”
The day kicks off with the presentation of the 2008 Mother Proof awards, which will be followed by a complete day of programming, including a lineup of industry experts who will share car-buying tips and safety information. Topics will include tips on raising a responsible teenage driver, trends in car design and color, and things to research before walking into a showroom.
Kids don’t need to take a backseat at the Mama Said Café. A vehicle-design expert from Chrysler will be on hand to inspire budding design talent, teaching kids to draw and design their own vehicles.

About Mother Proof:
Mother Proof™ (http://www.motherproof.com) provides online car reviews and information aimed at the fastest growing segment of automotive consumers: women and mothers. The site was launched in 2004 by Kristin Varela, a young mother of two, when she was in need of a new car and couldn’t find information that was important to her and her family. Now part of the Cars.com family, Mother Proof’s team of mom-reviewers continues in a never-ending quest for the quintessential mom-mobile, searching for vehicles that make grocery shopping and preschool pickup just a little easier.
