Girl Scouts and Toyota Create Their Own ‘Amazing Race’

Remember the days when you and your best girlfriends would hit the open road for three days of travel and adventure? While road-trip spontaneity might be history for most moms, some Michigan Girl Scouts got their first taste of the open road this summer.

Twenty-seven teams of Michigan Girl Scouts and their moms participated in “Toyota’s Amazing Girl Scout Race,” according to theautochannel.com. The teams zipped around Michigan and tackled tasks in a more-than 275-mile race.

These impressive ladies raced miniboats in Bay City, threw a slumber party in the Dow Museum in Midland and solved math problems to free themselves from a stockade, while their teammates had to shine shoes and make the bunk beds — military style — to earn extra “brownie” points, at Historic Fort Wayne in Detroit. These teams even tried their hand at sculpting with their new friends at the College for Creative Studies in Detroit. It kinda makes your own youthful exploits seem silly, doesn’t it?

Following three days of mental and physical challenges, the winning team was treated to a night’s stay at a hotel with an indoor water park and gift certificates to visit either the Detroit Zoo or the Henry Ford Museum.

“We’re very grateful to Toyota for sponsoring this challenge,” said Arlene M. Robinson, Girl Scouts of Metro Detroit CEO. “Toyota has been a terrific partner in our effort to share gems of Michigan’s culture and history with Girl Scouts from across the state.”

Congrats to the Michigan Girl Scouts, and to Toyota for mixing fun and education to ensure these girls would have a summer road trip experience to remember!

How come my girl scout troop never did anything this cool?!

Well, that goes to show you what corporate sponsorship will do. Man, all my brownie troop ever did was meet in the cafeteria to do crafts. That and form early addictions to Thin Mints.
