Recall Alert: Toyota Corolla, Toyota Matrix, Pontiac Vibe, Scion xD
Aug 31 2009 by Jennifer Newman
Toyota is recalling the 2008-09 Scion xD, 2009-10 Toyota Corolla, 2009-10 Toyota Matrix and 2009 Pontiac Vibe that are equipped with 1.8-liter engines and originally sold in or currently registered in Alaska, Colorado, Idaho, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, New York, North Dakota, South Dakota, Vermont, Wisconsin and Wyoming, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
When driving under certain conditions in extremely low temperatures, the intake manifold suction port for the brake vacuum can lock because of the freezing of condensation resulting from positive crankcase ventilation. This could lead to an increase in the vehicle’s stopping distance, which could cause a crash.
Dealers will install a newly designed intake air connector, which will relocate the brake system vacuum post, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin by Sept. 15.
For more information, owners can call Toyota at 800-331-4331 or NHTSA at 888-327-4236.

They never should have started making these in the United States. Totally Fubared now.
