Recall Alert: Mia Moda Viva and Viva Supreme Infant-Safety Seats
Oct 29 2009 by Jennifer Newman
If you use a Mia Moda Viva or Viva Supreme infant-safety seat, check it immediately.
Child-safety seat manufacturer Lerado is recalling 5,540 Mia Moda Viva and Viva Supreme infant-safety seats and bases because of a problem with the harness splitter plate, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The recall affects model Nos. 5000 (seat), 5001 (base), 5050 (seat), 5051 (base), 5070 (seat), 5071 (base), 5080 (seat) and 5081 (base). If you have one of these models, stop using it immediately.
The harness splitter plate, which is located on the rear of the seat, has sharp edges that can cut the car seat’s harness. The base also could crack in a crash. If a crash were to occur, a child wouldn’t be adequately restrained and could be injured or killed.
The recall is expected to begin in November. Lerado will notify registered owners and offer a full refund. If you didn’t register your car seat or you have questions about this recall, call Lerado at 877-546-8437. Owners can also call NHTSA at 888-327-4236.
