Oh Baby: Gas Prices Lead to Desperate Measures

Father Sells Unborn Son’s Naming Rights for $100 Gas Card
By: Sara Lacey
I don’t like the concept of naming rights. I see baseball games at Coors Field, concerts at the Pepsi Center and football games and other events at Invesco Field at Mile High Stadium – all in Denver. So you can imagine my reaction to the story of Dixon Willoughby Partin, an unborn child whose father sold his naming rights for a $100 gas card in an Orlando, Fla., radio station contest on the Dixon & Willoughby show. The men who chose the boy’s name are the radio station’s disc jockeys named – naturally – Richard Dixon and J. Willoughby.
You might be feeling a tad judgmental about the willingness of little Dixon’s parents to do this (I was, too). Yes, it’s a big deal, but a bigger deal is that with as much flak as the parents are taking, the DJs aren’t being talked about at all. Where was their sense of self-control? Where was their good judgment? At least they dropped the “And” from the boy’s name so he wouldn’t be Dixon And Willoughby Partin. And true, there are crazier names out there, but he’s still named after a radio show.
Holy Moses! How bad do gas prices have to be that someone would do such a thing? How bad a situation are you in if you’re willing to sell out your kid for gas? The real kicker is that the amount of the prize is only equal to about a tank and a half of gas. Sheesh.

My babies are worth more than $100 gas card. Shoot, that would get me through a few days of errands!
What has the world come to?
Americans like two things, especially Americans under 70 from Florida ; free stuff and being on TV or the radio. If this couple hadn’t offered to do it, thousands of others would vie for the mere opportunity.
Hate to sound jaded, but yeah…
these comments are just a hoot!
While I agree with everyone to a point, I’m now thinking about the poor baby and how he’ll have to tell people where his name came from. Talk about setting your child up to be made fun of - sad! Both parents and DJs are offensive for participating in this scheme.
What are they going to call him Dix Partin?

Why on earth did they settle for such a low amount?
