New York Auto Show: 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee is a Showstopper
Apr 08 2009 by Kristin Varela
In the midst of its fight for survival, Chrysler is revealing the all-new — as in every nano-molecule — 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee. I hope Chrysler sticks around long enough to actually make this car, because it looks promising.
Built on the Mercedes-Benz ML platform, the new Grand Cherokee offers improved fuel economy — 16/23 mpg city/highway for the two-wheel-drive model (that’s a whopping 11 percent improvement over the outgoing Grand Cherokee) — and flex-fuel capability. The Grand Cherokee will be easier to get into and out of thanks to wider door openings and a Quadra Lift air suspension system, which raises and lowers the SUV 4.5 inches. Just imagine an SUV that gently lowers when you park and allows you to step out with grace — even when wearing that great denim pencil skirt.
In addition to those practical features, the new Grand Cherokee will also sport a slew of luxury features any busy mom can appreciate: a heated steering wheel, heated and cooled front seats, heated rear seats, remote start, reclining second-row seats (helpful when trying to find that perfect fit for booster seats), and a tilt/telescoping steering wheel with a memory function.
The new Grand Cherokee will also get more than 45 safety and security features; most notable are a rearview camera, blind spot warning and rear cross-path systems, adaptive cruise control and a forward collision warning system.
The new Grand Cherokee is expected to hit showrooms in the second quarter of 2010. What do you think; will Chrysler be back on track by then and ready to introduce the new Grand Cherokee to consumers?
