New Bond Car, Aston Martin DBS, is the Cat’s Meow

Oct 10 2008 by Lori Hindman

Lucky me, I got to check out James Bond’s new car, the Aston Martin DBS, from “Quantum of Solace” at a Bond event featuring a martini bar, casino tables and women in bikinis that brought out the cattiness in yours truly.

We all know that James Bond is all about beautiful women and fast cars. Or is it fast women and beautiful cars? Let’s just talk about the Bond car, OK? Please understand that I really mean the car from the movie, which stars Daniel Craig as 007. While I was sitting in that oh-so-fabulous DBS, I became very popular and glamorous, too. Several men asked me for a ride; I’d have obliged all of them, if only the DBS had a backseat. Oh, and if only the Aston Martin people had let me drive it out of the parking lot.

The DBS is amazing. Aston Martins are completely handmade by actual people, which amazes me. From the engine to the stitching, human hands do all the work, and the result is a phenomenal piece of automotive excellence. I’m not exaggerating when I say that the DBS is gorgeous. It’s incredibly sleek and elegant looking, but it somehow never really strays from the traditional Aston Martin look. The DBS’ interior is a combination of retro simplicity and luxurious technology. I mean, how else do you reconcile an analog clock and a DVD player? The deep leather and suede seats wrap around the driver while brushed aluminum and bluish-backlit instruments direct all attention to the road ahead; it was awe inspiring. And if I tried to describe the deep, throaty purr of the V-12 engine, I’d have to indulge in more clichés, but I guess saying “purr” already did that.

Aston Martin calls the DBS its flagship car. That means that it’s the most wicked thing on Aston Martin’s menu. And as I said, sadly, I didn’t get to drive it, but if the DBS good enough for James Bond, who am I to argue?

Lori, you are the luckiest MPer around - I want to drive that car (maybe with 007 sitting beside me…)!

Just wanted to let you all know that the entire James Bond movie collection is available in HD for the first time ever now through November 30 (http://blogs.usatoday.com/entertainment/) through Comcast On Demand. There are lots of cool extras including two documentaries and some good stuff from the new movie Quantum of Solace.  You can also check out this clip on YouTube which features clips from all 21 Bond films.

I went on an Aston Martin factory tour in Gaydon yesterday. I saw the DBS in it’s various stages and the incredible V12 510bhp engine that powers the DBS. I was also lucky enough to test drive the touchtronic Quantum Silver DBS. It’s incredibly easy to drive. All I can say is if you can, then you should. You will not regret it!

Oh, such a lucky man! I’ve been a fan of James Bond movie and I really care how it feels to drive that car with flashy hella fog lights though.
