Make Art From Your Dirty Car

Dirty Car Art

Making a Masterpiece Before Motoring

Even the most diligent workers need a break.  I know you've spent more time than you'd want to admit on YouTube, or at perezhilton.com. Maybe that's how you got here. No, not from Perez (we hope), but by surfing; you just happened upon us.  That's how I came across www.dirtycarart.com. It immediately appealed to me not because I'm dirty (oh, stop), but because I love the innovative and interesting ways people choose to express themselves.

What exactly is Dirtycarart.com? It's the work of Scott Wade, who lives on a dirt road in Texas. Over the course of a week or two, he lets the dust from his drives pile onto his back window. When he's got a sufficient level of grime, he attacks it like a canvas, creating images on the window that are far beyond any amateur's smiley face, or any haphazard "wash me" or "I wish my wife were dirtier than this car" notations. He's copied the likes of Van Gogh, Botticelli, and Vermeer. He's done cartoon faces and — my personal favorite — dogs playing poker. Yeah!

I would love to have Mr. Wade create something on my back window. Since we just had a couple snowstorms here, the layer of dirt is more than sufficient. What would I like to see every time I looked out the back window? Certainly not my vanishing youth: I see that in the mirror every day. Dogs Playing Poker has been done, what about a velvet Elvis? Characters from Nick Jr., Disney or PBS would be strictly prohibited. Maybe something enjoyable, inspiring. Maybe something funny.

No, not Oprah.

I know! I would love a view of the ocean from my pool-side lounge chair. Umbrella drink on one side and my main squeeze on the other. I could definitely live with seeing that out the back window until the next time it rains.

Now get back to work, slacker!
