Demolition Derby

Man Paints His Proposal on a D-Derby Car

Spoiler alert: She said yes.

There are a thousand ways to propose. One friend of mine was sent on an elaborate treasure hunt, only to find her sweetie at a romantic restaurant with a sparkling ring in hand. Another friend was flown to Paris, where her petit-choux got down on bended knee at the top of the Eiffel Tower. My hubby was so excited and nervous that he kept dropping hints the night before he proposed, so by the time he dropped to one knee at the beach the next day, I was somewhat prepared. None of those top the marriage proposal that preceded that aforementioned yes. This one was so unique you might think I made it up.

Kevin Weaver of Danville, Pa., painted a marriage proposal on the car he was racing in a demolition derby: "Karen Slusser will u marry me?" He didn't stop his display of love there, oh no. He attached a stuffed bunny to the rooftop of his derby car — to advertise Karen's rabbit-breeding business, natch — and attached a plastic engagement ring to the bunny. Aww...

All sarcasm aside, it was a sweet gesture (despite the text-message spelling of "u," which bugs me, but maybe he ran out of room). Kevin was quoted as saying "Every woman I know says she wants to announce it to the world when she gets engaged. I figured I'd announce it for her and make it well-noted." Mission accomplished, dude. I picked this story up in my morning newspaper and have since seen snippets about it on every major news outlet. This guy is good!

On a side note, if this were you, wouldn't you worry about the potentially bad karma involved with proposing marriage on a demolition derby car? I mean, the car is totally smushed at the end. Call me superstitious, but that is not the type of symbolism I would have wanted underscoring my engagement. It's like having your first dance at your wedding set to the strains of  Guns 'n Roses' "I Used to Love Her, But I Had to Kill Her." Speaking of which, I also wonder what their wedding ceremony will be like. A proposal like that is a tough act to follow, but I have no doubt the Weaver-Slusser union will live up to my expectations. I just hope I get to read about it.

Rabbit-breeding business?  Aren’t they kinda known for accomplishing this quite well all by themselves?  I’m just sayin’...

Accidents cannot be predicted. If it is destined to happen then it will happen. Its nice to see the proposing technique to win a lover in a car racing place. But the thing is that the unexpected thing might happen.
