Hot or Not? Obnoxious Car Dealer Radio Ads
Dec 07 2009 by Kristin Varela
There’s nothing I hate more than having my Zen-like driving state interrupted when the radio breaks my moment of musical calm to air an obnoxious ad from a local car dealership.
The volume seems to increase tenfold, and a voice shouts at you with all sorts of strange sound effects (echoing, shadowing and slow motion), with indiscernible background noise, “PUSH, PULL or DRAG YOUR CAR IN. WE’RE SLASHING PRICES. IT’S THE BIGGEST SALE OF THE YEAR. WE’LL PAY OFF YOUR TRADE NO MATTER HOW MUCH YOU OWE. NO MATTER HOW MUCH YOU OWE.” (Insert giant explosion sound here.)
Is this really an effective technique to capture new customers and gain brand loyalty? I, for one, choose to boycott any dealerships that insult me by shouting their radio ad at me. Are these types of radio ads Hot or Not? Tell us in the comment section below.
