Hot or Not? ‘Coexist’ Bumper Sticker
Mar 09 2009 by Lori Hindman
I’m not a bumper-sticker person; I don’t show my support for my favorite sports team, politico or diet preference on my car. There is, however, one bumper sticker that has me close to breaking my no-sticker rule: It says “coexist.”
I can’t think of a sentiment I agree with more. In these difficult times of foreign wars and domestic struggles, it’s too easy to start blaming, fearing and hating others. Every time I see a “coexist” bumper sticker on a car, I feel a little more hopeful. That’s a sticker I can get behind.

Very annoying! When was the last time a Christian started a war? Don’t say the crusades, because you would be wrong. When was the last time Jews started a war? These people are being are not war mongers. The liberals are. Top liberals: Hugo Chavez, Adolf Hitler, Stalin, Putin, Kim Jong Il, Than Shwe, Hu Jintao, Robert Mugabe,Crown Prince Abdullah, Teodoro Obiang Nguema,Omar Al-Bashir, Saparmurat Niyazov, Fidel Castro, King Mswati III. I could on and on. Some of these people pretend to have religion but only to attract more voters. True people of the bible never start war or want war. Please do your homework before you start a new bumper sticker “fad”.
I believe the idea is for everyone to get along with everyone else, without blame or prejudice. Angelo, you might want to give it a try…
Don’t get upset Lori. You are obviously missing the point. Liberals such as yourself, love to put blame on everyone else but themselves. Obama still blames Bush for his spending. Yet, Obama has already spent more money than all the Presidents put together. FACT! But lets not get into that. My point is, these bumper stickers are incorrect. Christians are not violent people and have no prejudice towards others. Yes, there are a few bad apples that the media likes to point out, but know one is perfect. I watched the recent protests of PROP 8 and the people that were causing the biggest scene and pushing down others was the NO PROP 8 people. LIBERALS!!!!
Angelo, a bumper sticker promoting peace and unity just doesn’t scream blame the Christians. I do not know how you were able to interpret it as such. I think your rant and rave would be better suited for a different board debating the issues you discussed. Here, we just want a little peace.
Daniella: Why would they have a cross on there if they weren’t blaming the Christians? I think Daniella is a MOVEON.ORG member. She probably never studied history or political science and believes whatever Al Gore and rest of the Obama freaks say. I have a “coexist” neighbor down the street and it has diminished my faith in them because it’s one of the most stupidly facile and lame bumper stickers ever.
They ought to include a swastika next to the hammer-and-sickle—because everyone knows those two “religions” co-existed so well, at least in 1939 for a while, when it was convenient… Stupid hippies.
The Christian faith is not a faith to be lumped in with all others. We are called to accept Christ as our savior and the only way to heaven. As Christians we are called to be tolerant of all people because we are all sinners, but we cannot be tolerant of sin.
Being a Christian is a call to faith. When we accept all religions or some religions and mix and match the beliefs we like then I fail to see how that is faith. We also make ourselves the creator, because we tell the Creator that we know the right mix for us.
No wonder this world is a mess. Thanks Sara and Angelo for proving that peace cannot exist. Last I checked no one was arguing with your views and yet you keep them spewing. Good job! Enjoy your fight for your causes - see how far the anger and hatred will get you towards achieving inner peace or peace towards others. Love you!
Let there be peace on earth,
and let it begin with me.
Let there be peace on Earth,
the peace that was meant to be.
With God as our Father,
brothers all are we,
Let me walk with my brother,
in perfect harmony.
Let peace begin with me,
let this be the moment now.
With every step I take,
let this be my solemn vow,
To take each moment and live each moment
in peace, eternally.
Let there be Peace on Earth,
and let it begin with me.
Sheila is a little confused I think. Even my pals reading this are laughing right now. I did not read any hatred or anger behind Sara or Angelo’s responses. It seems they were stating fact and you can’t handle the truth. I believe as well as they do, peace would be wonderful but impossible if you don’t have faith in God and live by his principles. Sheila, if you don’t like there opinions than maybe you should be cuddling with Hugo Chavez because he doesn’t like them either.
How is it that a post promoting peaceful co-existence has spawned such bitter commentary?
“Bitter” what are you talking about Lori? You people need to calm down and relax.
These people are idiots. Having a cross on the sticker is not blaming Christians. That would be just as ignorant as saying that this sticker is singling out Buddhists or Jews. Since the sticker says “Coexist” it is obviously not blaming a certain group. This sticker is merely saying that everyone should act as one. People who believe this is singling out and degrading a single religion are ignorant and should have a well-needed ego check. Coexist.
This is a really cool sticker. I love it. I want one of those and I’ll put it just above my car’s vent visor so it can be seen by everyone.
This bumber sticker is a way to divide even further. Islam and Jews will NEVER get along. They never have and they never will! That is the TRUTH, hard to hear, hard to accept, but TRUE!
No religion should WANT to compromise to being equal with another. That diminishes each of them.
A “love your neighbor” bumper sticker is much more appropriate. It is in love that we can “co-exist”
I think it is amusing that people from these religions have a hard time getting along. If they would take the time to even look at another religion, they would see that they are extremely similar.
Judaism, Christianity and Islam are all monotheistic, they all believe that Adam, Noah, Abraham, Moses, and with the exception of Jews, Jesus.
Christians never started a war? Are never prone to violence? Give me a break. What about the Spanish Inqusition? Salem Witch Trials? Clinic bombings? The Protestant/Catholic “Troubles” in Ireland.
Even “The Crusades” fall into the list of Christian agression. Read your history on that one. The whole collection of crusades are not all nobel “Free The Holy Land from the Invading Muslims.” They include “Attack the Jews” and “Attack Fellow Christians” crusades. “The Crusades” are a period of abject agression thrown on the world by hundreds of years worth of Popes.
my thoughts are : do you see how christians just aim it towards them. it’s not about christians it’s about EVERYONE. and being open minded enought to accept a thought that someone with no beleif will not judge another for what they beleive in.
that’s all this sticker says.
hey we accept your faith we are not telling you to believe in any different. all we ask is that you don’t pass judgement because of my beleive! and most of you christians have done that very well on the board in a selfish way by saying christians don’t fight! no one said they did so why would you even bring it up. all we want is not to be judge so harshly for our different beliefs.
Then again Tony brings u pa great point!
Plus this sticker isn’t saying these people start wars. it’s just saying keep your judgement to yoruself!
i’m going to buy 2 of these now!
I have one of these stickers on my truck. I have been following posts like this out of curiosity to what other’s believe this sticker refers to. I in no way want to offend anyone by this on the back of my vehicle but it gave me the same feeling that the author in this article felt. I think people need faith, faith in humanity. I think pril posted very eloquently that this sticker is not pro or anti any single religion. It simply expresses that you believe what you will and I will what I will but lets not war over it. Yes I may be a hippy and I realize that the reality of the disagreements between these religions going back thousands of years will most likely never be resolved but it is a nice thought. If my sticker makes one person feel a little more peaceful every day. Have a little more faith in humanity than Coexist is a success. For those it pisses off I can only ask that you consider the good intentions behind the thought.
”“For those it pisses off I can only ask that you consider the good intentions behind the thought.”“
The road to hell is paved with “good intentions”
April - “we can not be tolerant of sin”. I’ve read your bible and I remember Jesus stopping those stoning a woman for sinning and saying “those of you without sin cast the first stone”. So being that you can’t read, how is it that you can type?
I agree with Jody. I honestly don’t see how the Christians here are finding this offensive. Doesn’t Jesus say to live peacefully with one another?
Jesus said, “Do you suppose that I came to give peace on earth? I tell you, not at all, but rather division. For from now on five in one house will be divided: three against two, and two against three.” (Luke 12:51-52) Jesus also spoke of dividing mankind into two groups, sheep and goats.(Matthew 25:31-33) Jesus is either the Lord of Lords and King of Kings or He is a fake. I believe He is the Alpah and the Omega, that He is the King of glory who died for the sins of us all. He has always divided people and will always divide people. The comments on this site are just a confirmation of the truth of the Bible. Just as the descendants of Ishmael will always be at war with the descendants of Isreal, so will there always be other religions or worldviews that reject Jesus Christ and seek to reduce Him to just another religous leader.

I love this sticker too, Lori. If I get one, I’ll pick one up for you, too!
