Ford to Recall 4.5 Million Vehicles
Oct 13 2009 by Jennifer Newman
Ford plans to recall 4.5 million vehicles with a faulty cruise control deactivation switch, according to the Detroit News. This faulty switch has now lead to the recall of 14 million vehicles over a 10-year period.
The automaker said the part “may, under certain conditions, leak internally and then overheat, smoke or burn.” There have been more than 1,500 complaints and at least 550 vehicle fires because of the switch.
This new recall affects a lot of mom-mobiles, including
• 1995-2003 model year Ford Windstar
• 1995-2002 Ford Explorer and Mercury Mountaineer
• 2000-2003 Ford Excursion diesel
• 1993-1997 and 1999-2003 Ford F-Super Duty diesel;
• 1992-2003 Ford Econoline
• 1995-1997 and 2001-2003 Ford Ranger
• 1994 Ford F53 Motor home vehicles equipped with the Texas Instruments speed control deactivation.

Wow,..I have a 2002 Ford Explorer XLT and this is just one of many things that have been soooo wrong with this year of car! We’ve put thousands of dollars into this vehicle..it’s ridiculous! Needless to say, we won’t be buying Ford anymore and I have been researching Toyota, Honda, Nissan and Kia, as they have had the best recent years reviews and longevity.
