Artist Shares His ‘Blind’ Preview of the Redesigned Volvo S60
Nov 06 2009 by Kristin Varela
Volvo asked artist Esref Armagan, who is blind, to paint a preview of Volvo’s redesigned S60. In this fascinating video documentary (below), we follow Armagan as he’s greeted at Volvo’s design center in Gothenburg, Sweden, by Peter Horbury, Volvo’s vice president of design, and then “sees” the car for the first time.
In the video, Armagan uses his hands to create an image the new S60. He then makes a raised drawing of the car he sees in his mind and later outlines the sketch in putty. He turns the image into a painting, using his fingers to apply vibrant-colored paints to the canvas.
This documentary is inspiring and tantalizing. It left me sitting on the edge of my seat, envisioning what kinds of fascinating design changes Volvo came up with for their newest S60. I’m dying to see it, and Armagan is the only person outside of Volvo to have seen — or felt — the redesigned sedan. After asking politely, Volvo let me have a sneak peek of the car. Unfortunately, I can’t share the new S60 photos with you until Tuesday. Can you stand the wait?
What futuristic ideas would add to the redesigned S60? Tell us in the comment section below.

Wonderful video of the remarkable artist, and I have an idea the new Volvo will be gorgeous. Thanks for this!
