Try Volvo’s Crash-Prevention System for Yourself

Jan 09 2009 by Jennifer Newman

For many people, seeing is believing. Volvo is doing that old adage one better with its From Sweden With Löv Tour that lets people experience the Volvo XC60’s City Safety System, which can help prevent collisions.

The 85-stop tour, which runs from January through March, puts drivers behind the wheel of an XC60 (a sweet-looking five-passenger SUV) to try out the system. City Safety can prevent or lessen the impact of a crash during low-speed driving conditions. If your car gets too close to the car directly in front of you, the City Safety System will quickly engage the brakes and illuminate your brake lights. If you’re going 2-9 mph, the system will stop your car before it hits the car in front of you. If you’re driving a little faster — 10-18 mph — the system will slow you down to lessen the crash’s impact. We’re all for a system that protects our family and the family in front of us, too!

There’s something else that we like about the City Safety System: It’s standard in the XC60. That’s right; you don’t have to fork out extra cash to get this important safety system.

We were first wowed by the XC60’s City Safety System at the Los Angeles auto show in November. While there, MotherProof.com’s Chief Mama Kristin Varela got to try out the City Safety System. Watch the video here.

Go out and try it for yourself. Next week, the tour will be in the San Francisco and Baltimore/Washington, D.C., areas.
