Mom of Kart-Racing Team Tells All

Nov 13 2009

My friend Faith Cody is a busy mom of three with a business to run and a kart-racing team to manage. That’s right, kart racing. What started as a way to have her three kids get out of the house and have some fun has quickly become a family obsession.

Wrap-A-Latte Sleeve a Stylish Way to Keep Hands Cool

Nov 12 2009

What did I like best about the Wrap-A-Latte, a stylish, reusable coffee-cup sleeve? It was the fact that it worked! It fit on all standard-size paper coffee cups that I tried, and my hand never got too hot while using it.

2010 Ford Fusion Hybrid

Oct 29 2009

When I went to pick up the 2010 Ford Fusion Hybrid, I thought, “Meh.” I was underwhelmed by its looks and its gray exterior with a gray interior. However, when I came out to drive it the next day, I saw a different car. The more I looked at the Fusion Hybrid, the more I liked it. So how did I go from “meh” to “awesome?” Simple, I drove it.

Sharp, Edgy Ford Taurus Drives Into Brave New World

Oct 22 2009

Ford spared nothing with the 2010 Taurus’ performance and fuel efficiency. They gave the high-performance Taurus SHO with the EcoBoost engine, a turbocharged 3.5-liter six-cylinder. This gives the Taurus SHO as much power as a V-8 but with better fuel efficiency and fewer emissions.

Hot or Not: Custom Paint Jobs

Oct 12 2009

I spend a lot of time in the car with my kids, and one of our favorite ways to pass the time is spotting snazzy-looking cars with custom paint jobs. Upscale car manufacturers allow customers to select from a variety of custom paint colors for their new cars. Automakers also use these custom jobs to build a buzz and promote their brands.

Mom Finally Finds Her New Perfect Car

Sep 30 2009

My biggest problem in finding my perfect car is I want a tan — make that Macadamia — interior in a Mercedes ML350. People told me to be flexible about the color, but the interior is where I spend most of my time — I don’t often lounge on the car’s hood in a bikini — and I was reluctant to give in.

2009 BMW Z4

Sep 23 2009

The 2009 BMW Z4 is sexy-looking, but you didn’t know it’s sexy under the hood, too. My test car had a twin-turbo inline-six-cylinder engine that got me everywhere in a big hurry. For the first time in who knows how long (ever), some dude tried to pick me up at a stoplight. I just laughed and left him in the dust.

2009 Land Rover LR2

Sep 08 2009

With a six-cylinder engine, the 2009 Land Rover LR2’s acceleration is great, and not once did I wish for more oomph. I did wish for better gas mileage numbers, though. The LR2 gets an EPA-estimated 15/22 mpg city/highway. That’s not great, and to make matter worse, she takes premium gas. Yes, she can off-road, and yes, she’s responsive, but if you’re in the market for a small SUV, you might be surprised by the fuel economy numbers.
