GM Makes More Plants Landfill-Free

Sep 16 2008

Recycled partsGM recently announced its plans to make half of its 180 parts manufacturing plants landfill-free by 2010. I’m impressed by this move since I’ve been working hard to become landfill-free at my house for quite some time.

2009 Subaru Forester

In the 2009 Forester, Subaru has made an effort to appeal to the granola-light consumer who wants to have as much convenience and style as possible in a car that delivers good gas mileage, value pricing and the ability to get out of the ’burbs at a moment’s notice.

Ecocabs Are a New Twist on Bicycle Rickshaws

Sep 04 2008

Ecocab

I’ve always been intrigued by public transportation here in the U.S. and around the world: subways and taxis, light rails and trolleys, bus systems, bicycles or rickshaws. Ecocabs, an interesting take on bicycle rickshaws, are a new approach to public transportation.

Coors

The Democrats and Coors Brewing are doing their part for the environment by fueling the Democratic National Convention’s fleet of cars with beer-based ethanol. Coors makes ethanol from beer waste at its Golden, Colo., brewery and is donating the ethanol for use in the DNC’s GM flex-fuel cars.

2009 Ford Flex

Mercedes Goes Green With Bluetec

Mercedes Bluetec

Launching a line of SUVs in these days of panic-inducing gas prices seems crazy to me. Mercedes-Benz is doing just that, but its crossover and SUVs are armed with clean-burning diesel engines.

Is it Hot in Here?

Aug 05 2008

black interior

Here I am, sweltering in the heat of summer. I even feel hot in my air-conditioned house. So it should come as no surprise that my black car with its black interior is a torture device at this point.

2008 GMC Yukon

2008 GMC Yukon

As a former full-size-SUV owner, I know that driving a big vehicle is really about hauling people. But owning a Yukon Hybrid is more than that — it’s also about hauling gear, being comfortable and doing it all with a dash of green.

2009 Pontiac Vibe

2009 Pontiac Vibe

The 2009 Pontiac Vibe has a lot of things going for it — except its name. The word “vibe” makes me think of certain unmentionables, but the car’s features are a good distraction from its unfortunate moniker.

Summer Road Trip Tips: Feeding the Beasts

Jun 17 2008

junk food

When traveling with kids, it’s wise to think ahead and plan for food stops as well as snacks inside the car. A little research can make meal-stops almost as memorable as the stop at the Paul Bunyan statue in Bemidji, Minn. While fast food may seem like an obvious choice, choosing something local can prove to be an adventure in itself.
