Jennifer Newman: bio
MP: What's your family situation? My husband and I have two very busy boys: Jackson, 6, and Ben, 2. Oh, and we have a rather lazy golden retriever, Wrigley. Yes, we're Cubs fans.
MP: What is your current mom-mobile?
We're a one-car family, and I'm driving our 2000 Nissan Xterra, which was my husband's dream car. This is not a family-friendly car. It's made for climbing mountains, not hauling around two kids and a large dog. There are a lot of things I like about the Xterra, including sitting up high and being able to haul so much stuff. We've started talking about what we need in a new car, though; I imagine we'll pick one up in a year or two.
MP: Do you have a favorite test-car feature?
I'd love to have an iPod adapter, backup camera and a DVD entertainment system in my next car. I'd also love heated seats for the cold Chicago winters, but they're not a must-have.
MP: When you're not driving your family around, what are you doing?
I'm usually playing cars, trains or "Star Wars" with my boys. There's some cooking thrown into the mix, too, and probably not enough cleaning.
MP: If you were auditioning for a TV show, what show and role would you try out for?
I'd be Dr. Addison Montgomery, played by Kate Walsh, on "Private Practice" (one of my very guilty pleasures). On the exterior she looks like she has it all figured out, but churning under the surface she's freaking out, just like the rest of us.
MP: What's your favorite indulgence?
I'd love to tell you that it's bubble baths or manicures, but my escape is a good book. I love to read, and I can usually be found with my nose in a book. There just might be a glass of red wine in my hand, too, but that's not an escape — sometimes it's a necessity.
MP: What do your kids love about your job?
Uh, the cars. My boys are obsessed with cars; I think we have at least 50 Matchbox cars wedged in between the cushions of our couch.
MP: What beverage lives in your cupholder?
I tend to forget my water bottle on the kitchen counter. I need to figure out a way to Velcro it to my hand whenever I leave the house.
MP: Where was your favorite family vacation?
We haven't done a full-on family vacation with our boys yet. We're planning a couple of car trips for this summer, and I can only hope they don't scar us for life.
