Zimride.com Makes Creating Carpools Painless
Aug 26 2009 by Courtney Messenbaugh
Zimride.com grew from a free Facebook application that leveraged people’s networks to help them find carpools into a small company that’s growing quickly. The site allows users to set up carpools with like-minded folk, thereby doing the Earth some good and perhaps creating new friendships. It seems like Match.com for carpoolers, doesn’t it?
It’s as easy as 1-2-3-4 to get started:
1. Register for an account
2. Set up a profile
3. Post a ride (you can post a ride as a passenger, driver or either)
4. Browse your matches and contact people you think would be cool to share a ride with
It’s all done from the privacy of your own computer, and you never have to take up with anyone whose vibe you’re not feeling. Because of its origins, Facebook is still in sync with Zimride. You can connect to Facebook through Zimride (or vice versa) to check people’s profiles, associated networks or interests before deciding if you want to share a car as you drive to work or the store.
Zimride.com was launched less than a year ago, and more than 300,000 people are registered with the site. The majority of users are university students. However, at its current rate of growth, it’s only a matter of time before someone from your child’s class is sending you a request to carpool every week.
The best part? It’s free! For more information or to register, go to Zimride.com.
