Flashy New Colors Often Better Suited for Nails

What is it about new-car paint colors that makes them perfectly suited for my toenails? One of our recent test cars here at Mother Proof was a Dark Amethyst Lincoln MKX. Dark Amethyst, as in goth black at a certain angle and shockingly purple metallic at another. I swear, it would look much better on fingernails than cars. As one of our reviewers said, "In 10 years, people will see this car on the road and say, 'Omigod, that color is sooo 2007.' " It's tough to change your car's color with the times, but it's much easier to switch out your decorative body lacquer.

There have been a few other trendy vehicle colors in the Mother Proof fleet of late: Blazing Copper Metallic (fabulous for late summer toenails in the sand), Dune Pearl (I'm thinking spring), Creme Brulee (um ... not on my nails or on my car, thanks, just for dessert), Seaside Pearl (don't try to pull this one off if you're over the age of, oh, say 12) and Cognac Crystal (designated driver required at all times).

Ford had a brilliant idea several years back with the launch of the 2005 Ford Mustang: It teamed with OPI to create a limited edition line of nail polish colors that were exact duplicates of the car colors: You Make Me Vroom, Revved Up & Red-y and Gone Platinum in 60 Seconds.

I'm hereby going on record requesting that Ford and OPI re-create the Dark Amethyst Lincoln MKX as a nail polish. And when you do, Ford, please send us a sample immediately. We'll test drive that one for sure!
