Chevy Targets Women with Shopping, Music

Oct 22 2008 by Emily Hansen

It was the high-heeled shoe logo and the chance to win a shoe-shopping spree in New York City that first caught my eye on the Shop, Rock & Roll website. I didn’t notice that the high heel was made of Chevy logos or that Fergie, Kate Perry (“I Kissed a Girl”) and other musicians were featured standing next to Chevy cars. It wasn’t until I stumbled upon the same site a few days later that I realized it was a giant advertisement for Chevy.

This site is pretty interesting: It offers a glimpse into the personalities of some hot musicians, including Natasha Bedingfield and the band OneRepublic; it has a selection of trendy products from skin care to designer purses; and it showcases several Chevy cars that might appeal to women who like shop and rock out.

Which Chevy car appeals to you? Are you going for Fergie’s glamorous look with a 2010 Chevy Camaro, Bedingfield’s urban-chic stylings with the 2009 Malibu, Perry’s retro-cool look with the ’09 Traverse or the rugged, outdoorsy look a la OneRepublic with the ’09 Tahoe?

As part of Shop, Rock & Roll, Chevy is doing a mall tour where you can check out the Malibu and Traverse, score a gift bag and get a free makeover from The Body Shop. How cool is that? On Saturday and Sunday, the tour hits the St. Louis Galleria.

The website’s marketing was unobtrusive and engaging, but I wonder if it was too subtle. What do you think? Does this kind of advertising make you want to go buy a Chevy?
