Most of the features on the Prius’ touch-screen information system can also be activated by voice. I love the idea of hands-free operation, but in reality, it usually requires me telling everyone in my car to please be quiet while I talk to the car. Yeah, I hear you laughing. That’s exactly what happens in my car, too.

The 2010 Toyota Prius gets great mileage, even for my mountainous driving, and it looks great, too. It has all of the little luxuries that most hybrids eschew as too heavy, and it can actually drive up a serious hill. You have no idea how much that means to me.

Shrinking forests, global warming, melting ice caps, polluted oceans...yikes! Pregnant mommies can't even eat fish in good conscience anymore, and coupled with all the other "don't eat items," why not just hand moms-to-be, a bucket of pills in lieu of food altogether.

Whatever your political or environmental leanings may be, the Prius is fun to drive, and if you write off the Prius due to any affiliations you have, you’re missing out.

The Civic Hybrid sounds like a great idea, but the pricey reality just falls flat.

I need to emphasize how fun this car is to drive. I feel pretty dang cool when a young man comes in and asks who has the GLI out front. Waving my hand in the air (maybe a little too enthusiastically) I say, "That's mine!"

When I went to pick up the 2010 Ford Fusion Hybrid, I thought, “Meh.” I was underwhelmed by its looks and its gray exterior with a gray interior. However, when I came out to drive it the next day, I saw a different car. The more I looked at the Fusion Hybrid, the more I liked it. So how did I go from “meh” to “awesome?” Simple, I drove it.

The Mini just might be the progressive, smart (think great gas mileage) and unconventional mom-mobile we’ve been searching for. Before writing this car off due to its perceived size — bigger isn’t always better, you know — slow down your shopping and broaden your vehicular horizons.

I guess I'll stick with my own small heroic gestures. Like actually moving all the chairs out of the way when I vacuum under the table or completely sorting all the laundry before I wash it. I'll make do with waving at people when they let me in while driving in traffic, and I'll use my blinker every time. I am more and more convinced every day that I should make the next car I buy a hybrid.

There's a time when I may have been intrigued by the Honda Civic Si, but truthfully, that time has long since come and gone. My present status weighs in heavily: mom of two, wife to one, organizer of all, directress of the house, maid of the bathrooms, gate keeper to the refrigerator...the list goes on.
