Review of the 2005 Cadillac Escalade

2005 Cadillac Escalade - 7/22/05

MSRP: $53,850 - $56,405 | MPG: 17 Hwy, 15 City

Does anyone really need to spend this much money on a gas guzzler that barely fits in an average parking space? After driving it for a week I can say with some certainty that I now see the appeal. I can drive this car to the PTA, or fit right into a rap video. You can’t say that about a station wagon.

Review of the 2005 Subaru B9 Tribeca

2006 Subaru B9 Tribeca - 7/05/05

MSRP: $30,695 - $33,895 | MPG: 23 Hwy, 18 City

The 2006 B9 Tribeca is less “crunchy granola Boulderite” and more “crunchy granola Boulderite has grown up, moved to a trendy city, secured a profession and has a growing family”. This car is equally comfortable in the carpool lane and on a rare child-free date night with my husband.

Review of the 2005 Lexus RX 400h

2006 Lexus RX 400h - 6/22/05

MSRP: $44,660 - $46,060 | MPG: 27 Hwy, 33 City

To Do: Finish dishes, fold laundry, fuel car, grocery shop, bank deposit, ballet recital, fuel car again, play group; deposit more money so I can FUEL THE CAR AGAIN! Listen up fellow moms, I’ve found a revolutionary way to cut down on our “To Do” lists while helping us manage our budgeted fuel costs. Check out the 2006 Lexus RX 400h (“h” for hybrid).

Review of the 2005 Nissan Murano

2005 Nissan Murano - 6/15/05

MSRP: $27,150 - $31,200 | MPG: 24 Hwy, 20 City

I love chocolate and I have no problem telling the world. I’m thrilled to hear about the newest studies linking chocolate to strong emotional and physical wellbeing. I don’t have to sacrifice decadence for health. Driving the 2005 Nissan Murano feels almost as good as eating chocolate. I don’t have to sacrifice form for function.

Review of the 2005 BMW X5

2005 BMW X5 - 5/10/05

MSRP: $41,700 - $70,100 | MPG: 21 Hwy, 16 City

Imagine my surprise when this luxury Sports Activity Vehicle actually draws blood. When pulling off the covers to get to the Latch connectors, a sharp plastic edge slices right into my fingertip. Thank goodness for leather seats that wipe clean easily.

Review of the 2005 Honda Pilot

2005 Honda Pilot - 4/04/05

MSRP: $27,550 - $32,320 | MPG: 22 Hwy, 17 City

I wonder if the automotive journalists who wrote those other Pilot reviews ever put children in the Pilot. Since Honda claims that “The Pilot continues to lead the sport utility segment as the ultimate SUV for family adventure” it would be logical to test it in real life with a real family.

Review of the 2005 Honda CR-V

2005 Honda CR-V - 3/11/05

MSRP: $20,195 - $25,250 | MPG: 26 Hwy, 23 City

The Hondas are coming, the Hondas are coming! Four months of phone calls and emails have finally paid off. For those of you requesting Honda reviews here they are: The CR-V followed by Accord Hybrid and Pilot (sorry, still no luck on the Odyssey). After all that waiting and build-up I sure hope they live up to their reputation of affordable, safe convenience.

Review of the 2005 Ford Escape

2005 Ford Escape - 2/15/05

MSRP: $19,425 - $28,455 | MPG: 22 Hwy, 36 City

Our family’s new year’s resolution for 2005 is to become more Earth conscious. For us, that means starting to recycle. I think that driving the Escape Hybrid for two weeks officially pardons me from those occasional yogurt cups I’ve “mistakenly” thrown in the garbage since January 1.

Review of the 2005 Volvo V50

2005 Volvo V50 - 1/29/05

MSRP: $25,990 - $29,385 | MPG: 29 Hwy, 21 City

I recently traveled 300 kilometers above the Arctic Circle to test the Volvo V50 and XC90 on the ice tracks. OK, the real truth is that 13 hours in the plane each way without kids was quite appealing to me. A good book, some mindless magazines and a long nap would do any mom a world of good.

Review of the 2005 Ford Freestyle

2005 Ford Freestyle - 1/24/05

MSRP: $25,040 - $30,440 | MPG: 24 Hwy, 20 City

Young women today work hard, whether it’s at an office or as full-time moms. We act as chauffeurs, cooks, counselors, nurses, housekeepers, and more (in my instance, I have to give my husband credit for his amazing cleaning skills). We deserve to get into a car that feels just as good as putting on our favorite pair of jeans. The Ford Freestyle does it for me.
