Review of the 2009 Toyota Land Cruiser

2009 Toyota Land Cruiser - 8/28/09

MSRP: $64,755 - $64,755 | MPG: 18 Hwy, 13 City

Details: 8 Seats, 3 Rows, 2 Latch Connectors

When I first got into the 2009 Toyota Land Cruiser, I was offended by its size. It’s enormous, and I thought it was a lot more room than I needed. But like a pair of baggy jeans, I found myself spreading out and growing into the Land Cruiser.

Review of the 2009 Jaguar XF

2010 Jaguar XF - 8/26/09

MSRP: $51,150 - $79,150 | MPG: 21 Hwy, 16 City

Details: 5 Seats, 2 Rows, 2 Latch Connectors

The 2010 Jaguar XF Premium oozes quiet sex appeal, and I attempted to embody this same characteristic while I was test driving her. The best part of the XF is I didn’t have to sacrifice mom-function, pleasurable drivability, safety or luxury for those extra — albeit pricey — style points.

Review of the 2009 Nissan Versa

2009 Nissan Versa - 8/24/09

MSRP: $9,990 - $16,330 | MPG: 31 Hwy, 27 City

Details: 5 Seats, 2 Rows, 2 Latch Connectors

Months before the 2009 Nissan Versa’s arrival at my doorstep, I was eagerly anticipating test driving one of the most affordable cars in the market today. I knew it would lack frills. However, I can appreciate simplicity, so I welcomed the Versa into my driveway.

Review of the 2009 Subaru Forester

2010 Subaru Forester - 8/19/09

MSRP: $20,295 - $28,495 | MPG: 24 Hwy, 20 City

Details: 5 Seats, 2 Rows, 2 Latch Connectors

I had lots of fun driving the turbocharged 2010 Subaru Forester, but the problems started when I loaded my family into it for a six-hour road trip to Minnesota. The sum of these minor problems was enough that I wouldn’t buy this car for my family.

Review of the 2009 Nissan Armada

2010 Nissan Armada - 8/17/09

MSRP: $37,210 - $52,190 | MPG: 18 Hwy, 12 City

Details: 8 Seats, 3 Rows, 3 Latch Connectors

During my two-week test drive of the 2010 Nissan Armada, I liked almost everything about the full-size SUV. However, I’ll never buy one—not until its gas mileage improves. The Armada’s whoop-de-don’t fuel economy numbers are 12/18 mpg city/highway; they’re underwhelming, to say the least.

Review of the 2009 Nissan Maxima

2009 Nissan Maxima - 8/12/09

MSRP: $30,160 - $32,860 | MPG: 26 Hwy, 19 City

Details: 5 Seats, 2 Rows, 2 Latch Connectors

As a consumer, I’ve never considered buying a Nissan Maxima. It just hasn’t been on my car radar. After test-driving a 2009 Maxima for a week, it’s now on my radar. In fact, I give it the maximum A-plus Mommy-rating.

Review of the 2009 Chrysler Town & Country

2009 Chrysler Town and Country Limited - 8/05/09

MSRP: $26,340 - $36,780 | MPG: 23 Hwy, 17 City

Details: 7 Seats, 3 Rows, 3 Latch Connectors

For me, a minivan is a vehicular vacation; it takes no effort to open or close its doors, and it has fun features and plenty of space for the whole family. The 2009 Chrysler Town & Country I tested is no exception to this experience; however, it’s more of an all-inclusive resort as opposed to a vacation I’d plan on my own.

Review of the 2009 Kia Borrego

2009 Kia Borrego - 7/30/09

MSRP: $26,245 - $39,995 | MPG: 20 Hwy, 17 City

Details: 7 Seats, 3 Rows, 2 Latch Connectors

Kia is known for delivering a lot of car for a little price. When I jumped into the boxy cuteness of the 2009 Borrego, I was ready to be pleasantly surprised by its value-added price tag. Surprise! It’s not that much less expensive than many three-row SUVs. Bummer!

Review of the 2009 Scion xB

2009 Scion xB - 7/22/09

MSRP: $15,750 - $15,750 | MPG: 28 Hwy, 22 City

Details: 5 Seats, 2 Rows, 2 Latch Connectors

Everyone has an opinion about the 2009 Scion xB, and it was fun to hear them during my test drive. This distinctive hatchback was compared to a breadbox, a mailbox and other boxes—but people, I loved it. I loved its design, shape and funky style.

Review of the 2009 Toyota Highlander Hybrid

2009 Toyota Highlander Hybrid Limited - 7/21/09

MSRP: $34,700 - $41,020 | MPG: 25 Hwy, 27 City

Details: 7 Seats, 3 Rows, 2 Latch Connectors

The 2009 Highlander Hybrid is an SUV full of contradictions. After a week of hard use by my crack team of vehicular testers — aka my family — all the contradictions boiled down to one irrefutable truth: The HiHy (as we like to call it) is one great family-mobile.
