Oh Subaru Tribeca, I so want to love you, but something holds me back. Maybe it’s your lack of space for my booster seats or your lackluster lumbar support. While your all-wheel drive, dependable reputation and super-fun puddle lights do excite me, I just don’t see this relationship going anywhere long-term.

Driving the 2009 Infiniti QX56 was just as awesome as looking at it. A huge 5.6-liter V-8 engine not only sucked up the gas, but it moved this ride with awe-thority. The ride was smooth and quiet, and I was surprised, actually, by how agile the QX was. What’s not awesome about the QX56: the mileage.

I found the 2008 Toyota Sequoia awe-inspiring. I’ve never, ever, ever been in a SUV of these proportions. Standing next to it, I admired the height of her hood and the sheer size of her doors. Wow! Each door had to be the size of our dining room table.

In the 2009 Forester, Subaru has made an effort to appeal to the granola-light consumer who wants to have as much convenience and style as possible in a car that delivers good gas mileage, value pricing and the ability to get out of the ’burbs at a moment’s notice.

The ’09 Toyota 4Runner is a testosterone-loaded, V-8, 4x4 super truck that just happens to work pretty well as a kid-hauler.

As a former full-size-SUV owner, I know that driving a big vehicle is really about hauling people. But owning a Yukon Hybrid is more than that — it’s also about hauling gear, being comfortable and doing it all with a dash of green.

I’m relieved because I just figured something out. Jeep is getting better fuel efficiency from its SUVs with its turbo-diesel V-6 engine. In the past, I’ve likened its environmental efforts to my son’s feelings about any green vegetable — a strict, “no thanks, I’ll figure something else out” approach.

I took a chance on the 2009 Honda Pilot and discovered a soft heart buried beneath its sharp edges. Just like the frog prince, the 2009 Pilot’s appearances can be deceiving. In the hopes that a fairy godmother will descend with a fabulous makeover, I hereby rename this midsize SUV “Truckarella.”

They say the only things you can count on are death and taxes. Well, I’d like to add a few things to that list: Levis, ice cream, diet Dr. Pepper, my tragically frizzy hair and the 2008 Honda Pilot.

I don’t know why I’m continually surprised by the quality of Hyundai vehicles. Whatever the cause, for some reason I am pleasantly surprised every time I drive a new Hyundai, and the 2008 Hyundai Santa Fe was no exception.
