Interior
The front seats are roomy, comfy and heated. The rear seat is roomy enough, but I usually find that Land Rovers could provide a bit more legroom in back, and the LR2 is no exception. With a rear-facing child-safety seat, I could have used a little more room back there so my hubby’s knees weren’t almost in the glove box.
The trunk/cargo space on its own is adequate, though as I mentioned before it’s a little less than its competitors’. Even more than extra space, what I would have really enjoyed on this car was a power liftgate. In fact, as I balanced groceries and my children while trying to shut the liftgate, I thought every car should have an auto liftgate to help us mamas out.
I’m a huge fan of the LR2’s dual sunroof. It encompasses practically the entire roof of the vehicle, and the world seems brighter as a result. Plus, your children will think it’s ab fab. My son used the opportunity to tell me about every airplane or bird he saw fly overhead. Another nice touch for on-the-go parents is the power outlet up front for those times you’re on deadline, waiting in the carpool lane with an otherwise-dead laptop.
I would have also liked to have seen more cabin storage. There’s not a ton. Usually I get some good storage space between the driver and passenger seats, but the LR2 has cupholders and nothing else there. All it really gives you storage-wise is the glove compartment, and that just isn’t large enough to hold my music, snacks, baby wipes, extra diapers and a few toys (being a mom requires A LOT of gear!).
The $3,500 Technology Package my test vehicle sported adds an amped-up Dolby sound system, DVD-based navigation system, Sirius Satellite Radio, backseat audio controls and Bluetooth. It also had the Lighting Package ($1,050), which gives you bi-xenon adaptive front headlights, puddle lamps, reading lamps and memory settings for the driver’s seat and rearview mirrors. Heated seats are also an option, available in a Cold Climate Package ($700) that also includes a heated windshield and heated washer jets.
