I’m married to a wonderful guy I met while roller-skating about five years ago. We’ve been married since June 2002 and have a son named Tyler who is embarking upon toddlerhood.
I graduated from Metropolitan State College with a B.A. in journalism and a minor in marketing. After college, I became a marketing manager for Wild Oats Natural Markets. Two years later I had my son Tyler and decided that being a mom was priority No. 1, so I gave up my career at Wild Oats. To help bring home the bacon, I work part time at Crate and Barrel and work from home for Mother Proof, and I enjoy every minute of it!
I drive a 2003 Honda Civic. Compared to the lemon I used to drive, this baby has been the car of my limited-financial-budget dreams. It’s perfect for the three of us, although my husband does require more legroom since he is 6 feet 4 inches. If it had more legroom and whipped up a tall gingerbread latte with soy, it would be near perfect.
Aside from a car that can brew my favorite beverages? I would have to say my dream-mobile would of course be safe for my child and make loading and unloading him and his stuff a breeze. If I can feel in a car the way I feel when I’m cozy on the couch with a great book or movie, then that’s the perfect car for me.
I truly enjoy getting out of the house to do some exercise. I find that yoga and Pilates leave me feeling renewed and less stressed. Relaxed Mom equals Happy Mom, Happy Mom equals Happy Family. Massages at a relaxing day spa work well, too.
Well, I am pretty new at this, so I learn as I go. My husband is really good with children, so I learn a lot from him. Most days I think, “Today was a great day.” Then there are those days when I am ready to rip my hair out. On those days, my tip for survival is to brew a nice hot cup of green tea and slowly sip it between deep breathes while Tyler finishes his tantrum.
I love watching Tyler learn; it’s amazing how quickly children learn and adapt. I especially love making him laugh. It melts my heart when he runs over to give me a hug and I breathe in his wonderful baby smell. He is a reflection of my husband and me, and that, to me, is life’s reward.
York Peppermint Patties. I can’t eat just one.
There’s nothing more relaxing to me than lying on warm sand listening to the waves crash along the shore. Then I would be getting a relaxing back massage, facial and pedicure while I enjoy a bowl of fresh fruit and … oh, wait, back to reality.
