Your Next Coke Could be Delivered by a Hybrid Truck

Feb 18 2009 by Sara Lacey

Coca-Cola Enterprises, the world’s largest marketer, producer and distributor of Coca-Cola products, plans to add 185 heavy-duty hybrid-electric trucks to its fleet this year. Now that’s something that makes this mom smile.

The hybrid-electric trucks use about 30 percent less fuel and produce about 30 percent fewer emissions than diesel trucks, according to the company. Currently, Coca-Cola Enterprises has 142 hybrid-electric delivery trucks out on the road. The additional 185 hybrids will make Coca-Cola Enterprises the largest heavy-duty hybrid-electric delivery fleet in North America. The new hybrid-electric trucks are larger than the company’s hybrid trucks that are already on the road.

While I’m excited that Coca-Cola Enterprises is making this green move, I’d like to inject a little perspective. Coca-Cola Enterprise’s fleet is made up of 200,000 diesel trucks. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not trying to rain on the company’s parade. I’m glad they’ve started to convert their fleet of trucks, but they’ve got a long way to go. I can only hope that my next Coke is delivered to the store by a hybrid truck.

thats great, big tucks use a lot of fuel in just one day.  if you can save 30% on every tank of fuel you buy that will add up to a lot of fuel we can save! this is better for the drivers and the earth. go green
