MotherProof.com Goes Green With Terrapass

Program Helps You Balance Environmental Impact of Driving
In an effort to keep the air clean for our kids, MotherProof.com decided to go green. To compensate for our test cars’ emissions, we’ve offset them with Terrapass. I wrote about Terrapass last October: The funding program allows you to sponsor clean-energy projects, which help to balance the environmental impact of your driving. It was really easy to do, and we’re excited to be contributing to some interesting green projects.
All of us MotherProofers gathered our test cars’ mileage, averaged it and sent it off to our friends at Terrapass, where they did all of the crazy math for us (think they’ll help us with our kids’ algebra homework, too?). They figured out our carbon output and gave us a corresponding dollar amount to contribute to clean-energy programs.
I thought they’d blink when I told them our average mileage differs in the summer compared to the rest of the year (carpooling, you know). I thought we were just really high maintenance, but it turns out we can re-evaluate later in the year and adjust our numbers if needed. How cool is that? And we can offset our office output and travel output, too; we’ll start working that into next year’s budget.
Just like going green in other areas of our lives, using Terrapass is another small step toward leaving our kids a cleaner planet.
