Keeping Kids Safe in the Carpool Lane

Remember to Keep it All Business While ’Pooling
With the school year in full swing, now’s a good time to review carpool safety tips for all you ’poolers out there.
Before Carpooling
• Do not carry more children than you have proper seating, booster seats and seat belts for.
• Set rules for proper behavior in your car.
• Let the other carpoolers make and enforce their own rules.
In the Carpool Lane, It’s All Business
• Stay in your vehicle while waiting for your kids.
• Drive slowly and look out for meandering kids (my child’s school reminds parents to “assume a child might unexpectedly walk into the [parking] lot or carpool lane.”)
• Always have kids enter and exit your car on the curb side.
• Listen to your Carpool Captains.
• Don’t chat with drivers in the carpool lane. Remember, it’s all business in the carpool lane.
• Drive slowly. Did we say that already?
