Using I Am Not A Paper Cup Means I am Not a Litterbug

Jan 09 2009 by Sara Lacey

I’ve found the perfect travel mug: I Am Not A Paper Cup. Travel mugs are tricky. Each new mug brings with it hope and, ultimately, frustration. In the end, there’s usually something about the mug that doesn’t quite work: the lid leaks, it’s not dishwasher safe or it makes your coffee taste plasticky or metallic.

This cup has changed my life. It looks just like a to-go cup from your favorite coffee joint, and you can reuse it. It’s a double-walled porcelain cup — yep, porcelain, so your coffee tastes good and not metallic. Its silicone lid stays on without fail (OK, so the lid’s gotta be washed a few times to get the rubbery taste out of it), and it can go in the dishwasher.

I think I Am Not A Paper Cup is a perfect example of form meeting function. We now use these cups around the house as well as in our cars. I recently bought six of them to give as Christmas gifts, but they mysteriously found their way into my cabinets instead of other people’s. My husband is the lead suspect. Now I need to buy some for my poor friends who didn’t get their gifts in a timely fashion.

I bought mine from Amazon.com before Christmas for less than $16 each. It looks like prices have gone up and the availability has gone down on Amazon, but UncommonGoods.com has it for $20. This cup is worth the money and effort to find it; I Am Not A Paper Cup’s other name should be I Am Totally Worth It.
