Graco Helps Parents Narrow Car-Seat Choices

Dec 04 2008 by Courtney Messenbaugh

Whenever it’s time to buy a new child-safety seat for my kids, I’m overwhelmed by the choices. The proliferation of child-safety seats makes for a confusing shopping experience, and I’ve seriously wished that car seats weren’t a necessity simply because the choices nearly paralyze me. Well, I can now breathe a sigh of relief as car-seat manufacturer Graco has created a website to help alleviate my pseudo-paralysis.

Ready for the Road Ahead is a new site to help overwhelmed (and overworked) parents navigate the company’s car seats and arm us with enough knowledge to give us some peace of mind. It’s about time someone offered me a little peace of mind; I’ve been doing yoga and drinking green tea like a madwoman trying to find it, but a simple website click sounds like a much easier path to enlightenment! The site includes:

• A Car-Seat Selection Tool: Answer a few simple questions about your child’s age, weight and height and out comes a list of car seats that will fit your child’s little bod. You can narrow your car-seat choices by indicating your color, style, accessory and retailer preferences.

• Installation Demonstrations: These videos easily guide you through the installation process, but I’d still recommend getting your car seat checked by a certified professional after you’ve installed it. The website’s videos show how to install several different car-seat models using either Latch anchors or a seat belt. Plus, the videos resemble some of MotherProof’s own car-seat installation videos, so how can we not like that? Spreading the word is what we’re all about here.

• Travel Tips: The website’s Stories From the Road section features four bloggers (one dad and three moms — all of whom are super cute and engaging) who share their tips on surviving family car trips and keeping the kiddos happy.

• Ready. Safe. Go! Car Seat Club: Become a member (free, naturally) and you’ll receive all sorts of good information and advice based on your child’s age. You probably feel like you get plenty of advice already, but sign up anyway because for every 10 people who join the club by Dec. 31, Graco will donate a car seat to an organization that serves families in need. After all, the whole car-seat-buying process might be overwhelming, but at least you can afford to buy one. ’Tis the season, so sign up and have everyone you know sign up; give yourself some peace of mind, and give someone less fortunate than you the chance to get a car seat for their child.
