Tattoo-Like Decals Add Style to Car’s Exterior

Nov 04 2008 by Emily Hansen

Finally, there are car decals out there I actually like. Maybe I like the car stickers at Infectious.com because they don’t give away anything too personal about me (other than my willingness to deface my car with giant stickers), or maybe it’s because I appreciate the cool artwork. For whatever reason, I’m seriously thinking about getting some.

Earlier this year I wrote a story about those crazy little stick-figure decals (the ones with a stick figure for each family member) that people put on their cars. The article turned out to be a lot more controversial than I’d ever expected. The car decals at Infectious.com are cooler-looking than the stick-figure stickers. And a few of the decals even made me chuckle (warning: a few artists’ images are not child-friendly, so you might want to look at them sans kiddos).

I even think these decals would let me live out some of my tattoo fantasies in a way that might be acceptable by my mother. For my 30th birthday (which was not recent), I gave myself a little gifty — a tattoo! Well, I guess it was the intention of getting a tattoo; I still have been unable to decide what I want or where I might want to put it. Unfortunately, as time marches on I’ve been wondering more and more about the where-to-put-it part; so living my tattoo art fantasies out on my car seems kind of appealing. But living out my tattoo fantasies on my teenage son’s car seems even better.

My favorite design is Si Scott’s “Fluid”; it’s very tattoo-like, yet very simple. I appreciate that I can order a single image from a set of decals or order the whole kit to outfit my car in art. It’s kind of like a starter tattoo that begins with a small black outline and can be expanded and colored in later. The website offers detailed instructions and even instructional videos on how to apply the decals. Finally, if you’re a budding artist or designer, you can submit your own designs and potentially have them added to Infectious.com’s catalog.

I like the Koi artwork!  Did you see that some of the artists will sell wall art and LAPTOP art of those designs too?

cool. i’ve never had plans on putting any stickers and tattoo on my own car since then that I read this article. I think decals would fit my mercedes benz parts car.. I like it more gurly and fashionable.
