Keeping Kids Safe Around Cars

Car-Safety Expert to Give Tips on NBC’s 'Today Show’

Summer is often filled with fun and family, but it’s also a time of increased non-traffic car accidents involving children. Janette Fennell, founder and president of Kids and Cars, will give summer car-safety tips on NBC’s “Today Show” during the 8 o’clock hour Thursday morning.

Kids and Cars tracks non-traffic car incidents, including kids left behind in cars or backed over by a car. There is no governmental agency that collects this kind of data, so Janette and her group compile it in an effort to increase awareness and end these tragedies.

Janette, who is a friend of MotherProof.com, will discuss vehicular dangers of the summer months on the “Today Show.” Kids And Cars’ data show that non-traffic car accidents increase during holidays, busy times and when there’s a change in routine. That spells summertime at my house!

Some of the tips for keeping kids safe around cars include always setting the emergency brake and double-checking the car after parking to make sure everyone’s out. These are common-sense ideas, but we can always use reminders on how to be on the ball with our kids around cars. For more safety tips, go to kidsandcars.org.

Tune in tomorrow to hear what Janette has to say, and have a fun and safe Fourth of July!
