Keep Sun Out of Kids’ Eyes With Protect-a-Bub Sunshade

Sep 15 2009 by Courtney Messenbaugh

Colorado gets more than 320 days of sunshine each year.  San Diego has nothing on us (except that large body of water they call the Pacific Ocean). Because of all this sun, I’ve always wondered why rear-facing infant-safety seats are the only car seats with built-in sunshades. I needn’t worry any longer because the Protect-a-Bub Car Seat Sunshade has entered my life. The Bub is a self-supporting sunshade that fits any infant and toddler car seats.

The Protect-a-Bub is easy to use.  You simply tie it onto the exterior of the car seat. It took me all of a minute to get it up and running, which is something I’m always grateful for when it comes to kids’ gear.  The Bub has adjustable side flaps, which means you can opt for a whole lot or just a little protection from the sun. It’s made of a lightweight, breathable fabric, and it protects against 98 percent of the sun’s rays.

Since my toddler started riding in a forward-facing child-safety seat, I’ve been bombarded with his refrain of “Mommy, the sunshine is bothering me!” Poor little guy. He doesn’t like having to squint, and I don’t like that he’s exposed to the sun’s harmful rays. My little one stopped complaining about the sun when we started using the Protect-a-Bub. I tied the Bub’s sides back, which gave him a better view and kept him from complaining that he couldn’t see. Having the option to tie up the larger pieces of material was great.

One thing I like about the Bub is that I don’t have to use those silly window shades anymore. They never worked that well for me because the suction cups weren’t great and/or my son would tear them down so he could see out his window.

The best part about the Bub is my son likes it.  Well, that and the fact that stars like Kate Winslet, Sarah Jessica Parker and Julia Roberts have all been spotted toting their tots around with Protect-a-Bub sunshades.

The Bub retails for about $30 and comes in black or navy blue.  For more information, go to Protect-a-BubUSA.com.

Why not just buy the kid a baseball hat… And uh, the sun is actually kinda good for vitamin metabolism…unless you want your kid to develop rickets… Harmful rays? Yeah, um, glass has a way of filtering out harmful UV…. And when he gets older, just buy him a copy of Warcraft and he can sit in a dark basement far from the evil effects of the sun.

Ha Ha!  That’s pretty funny Sunmaid:)  I actually have one of these and it was great keeping the sun out of my baby’s eyes (which he did not like) when we were on long road trips. It’s pretty adjustable and I don’t know about harmful UV rays in the car but our car windows definitely don’t filter out the glare and he wouldn’t keep sunglasses or a hat on so it worked for me.
