babysparewear Makes Fiasco a Fiesta
The other night, my husband, Mark, my son, Harry, and I all went out for Mexican food. Our table was right next to the restaurant’s indoor water feature — a kitschy fountain mounted on the wall that sent water cascading into a wading pool below. Harry thought the water was his own private Eden, and as such he stood poolside splashing around gleefully. Mark, as the parent closest to Harry and the water, was in charge of making sure things didn’t get out of hand.
Inevitably, the moment came when Mark, in the warm glow that comes after a couple of margaritas, began to focus more on what he was saying to me than what Harry was doing with the water. So, SPLOOSH! Within seconds, Harry had tipped head-first into the pool, leaving only his little pajama-clad feet flailing at us. My jaw (along with everyone else’s in the restaurant) hit the floor. Mark quickly redeemed himself by handily fishing Harry out of the pool, but Harry was completely soaked. What is a mom to do at this point? Leave her frijoles and guacamole untouched and head back to her casa? Not a chance!
Lucky for all of us, I had a babysparewear pouch handy, and it saved our Mexican fiesta. Seriously, this is my new favorite thing. It’s a sturdy yet stylish plastic bag (think chic pencil case) with a zipper and a coolly minimalist set of clean, dry baby clothes inside. I had some babysparewear stashed in my car during the restaurant fiasco. I pulled it out, made the swap, and Harry was dry and cozy again in no time. My husband was soaking wet, but who cares? Harry even slept in the outfit — it’s that comfy — and it held up in the wash beautifully. Once it was clean, I put it right back in its case and into my glove box, so I’m still prepared.
Babysparewear is the brainchild of Veronica Milito, a busy mom of three who’d had it with her babies’ many on-the-go wardrobe emergencies. Babysparewear comes in sizes from newborn to 4T, and in fun colors like tangerine, pistachio and even black for some cute baby mocktail wear. You can put one in the stroller, the car, at the grandparents’ house or anywhere else you might need it. Prices range from about $30 to $52, which isn't bad for just a bit more convenience in your life.

Yes, I always keep an extra set of clothes for each of my kids in a plastic bag in the car. I usually keep a fresh towel in there too, as my son, like little Harry here, loves any type of water he can get into. $30 seems a bit steep, and mothers have been coping with this sort of situation just fine for ages.
