Even Karl Lagerfeld Makes Sacrifices for Safety
Jun 25 2008 by Sara Lacey
Iconic Fashion Designer Models ‘Ugly’ New Look
I’m no fashionista (unless you can hook me up with some couture flip-flops), but I sure know a fashion sacrifice when I see one. This ad from the French government qualifies as just that, reading “It’s yellow, it’s ugly, it doesn’t match anything. It could save your life.”
As of July 1, French motorists will be required to carry a yellow reflective vest and red safety triangle in their cars. The gear must be used during a breakdown.
Who did the French authorities get to be their spokesperson? Who could have the weighty, authoritative kind of reputation that would encourage a country of fashion slaves to wear a shapeless reflective vest during a roadside emergency? Fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld, that’s who!
Lagerfeld is pictured wearing the vest, which is weird because I’ve never seen a picture of him in anything other than a suit and driving gloves. Props to Lagerfeld for putting on this horrid vest and promoting safety on the street. Who knew that in addition to being a fashion designer he’d be such a terrific model, too? Uh, role model, that is.

So if the EU stands for more Safety in the Traffic why don’t we in the USA ?
The VizVest Safety Vest from Warntex USA http://www.warntex.net is made for more saftey on US Streets. Check it out!
