Create Personalized Postcards From the Road With iPhone App

Jul 14 2009 by Sara Lacey

Imagine creating your own personalized postcards as you and your family drive from one scenic stop to the next on your summer road trip. It’s possible with an iPhone and the Postino app. It was a special treat when I recently received one of these customized postcards from friends on their road trip.

How did they do it? The Postino app, which is free, allowed my friends to take a picture, write a caption and send a postcard to my house. This is a great way to document a family road trip for your friends. I mean, it’s great to get an email with some photos attached to it, but this is something kids can put up on their bulletin boards or in their scrapbooks. Our son has a postcard collection, and it’s really cool to be able to put a humorous, personalized one in with all the others.

There are several postcard applications for the iPhone, but most of them send an ecard. Along with the Postino app, there’s also SnapShot Postcard, which is $4.99 and sends an actual postcard. These applications will charge for the postage ($2 for the first postcard and less if you send several postcards), so just be sure that little hands don’t press the “send” button over and over again.
