Make Your Mom Life Easier With iPhone Apps
Jan 08 2009 by Sara Lacey
Lucky you, you got a new Apple iPhone or iTouch for Christmas, or maybe you’ve had one for a while now. These gadgets have tons of downloadable apps that can help you in your busy mom-on-the-go life. Here are some of my favorites, but please don’t try them out while you’re driving.
AllRecipes.com Dinner Spinner: Much of my life in the car is composed of multiple trips to and from the grocery store because I’m horrible at dinner planning. I’m usually trying to plan our dinner when I’m in the car or in the grocery store aisles. My favorite solution to this is AllRecipes.com’s Dinner Spinner. Armed with Dinner Spinner, I select the dish type (main dish, salad, side, etc.), ingredients I want to include and the time in which the meal needs to be ready. I press the spin button or shake my gadget (my iPhone, not my booty). The Dinner Spinner will come up with a slew of fantastic recipes for me right there on the spot. It’s meal-planning on the fly, my friends.
Urban Spoon: The other part of my life in the car is spent trying to make good on-the-go restaurant decisions. Sometimes the dinner window is rapidly closing while I’m stuck in traffic, which is why I love the Urban Spoon application. Urban Spoon helps me find any kind of restaurant within a specified price range in my area (or wherever I happen to be stuck in traffic). Simply select the city, type of food and budget requirements then give your gadget a shake and see what pops up.
Take Me to My Car: Want an app that’ll help keep your brain uncluttered? Try one of the several car-locator applications like Take Me to My Car. It lets you save the location of your parked car and then leads you back to it when you’re done shopping. Who doesn’t need that sometimes?
SitorSquat: When your 4-year-old is suddenly whimpering from the backseat that he or she needs to use the bathroom, turn to the SitorSquat app. Simply open the app, which is also available for the BlackBerry, and press the Search button. It’ll find the nearest restroom for your little one. Awesome.
Various traffic webcams: There are several free applications that can access a city’s traffic webcams. They’re great for verifying the traffic situation on your Google Maps application. Now you can plot a traffic-free trip through town, Mama!
Gas Cubby: This application charts your MPGs, gas prices, service records and other automotive expenses. This one is better suited for my better half, honestly.
Cheap Gas: Cheap Gas is a free application that’ll tell you where to find the cheapest gas in your area. This isn’t to be confused with the iFart mobile application. You should just leave that one alone.

I have 2 kids (4 and 6), and they have been in LOVE with the “Kids Songs Kwiz Game” lately…it’s a sort of ‘name that tune’ but for little ones. So cute and it keeps them entertained while I am stuck in traffic (which is the best part). I’ll include a link…
