Find Out How to Get Your Car Fixed

Heads up, mamas! The automotive world is awash in recalls these days, and there’s a good chance one of them may affect you and yours.

For starters, a child seat manufacturer is recalling 67,000 child-safety seats because the seats failed in collision tests, separating from their bases in frontal crashes. Combi USA is recalling its Centre, Centre ARB and Shuttle rear-facing infant seats (model numbers 8065, 8074, 8086, 8087 and 8520) and associated Travel Systems containing Centre and Shuttle seats (model numbers 4400, 4515 and 4520). The seats were sold both in stores and online at Amazon.com. Combi will provide consumers a free retrofit kit for the seats, and recommends that until you receive and install your retrofit kit, you should use your recalled seat without the base. Get more information at www.combi-intl.com or by calling 800-543-7734. No injuries have been reported, the company said.

After a tip from our friends over at KickingTires, we can also report that a recall of 4.6 million Ford vehicles has been re-issued because of a faulty cruise control system. The system can cause a fire, regardless of whether cruise control is on. In fact, the key doesn’t even need to be in the ignition. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, several fires have been attributed to the problem. Ford originally issued a recall on this problem to 9.6 million vehicles, but many still haven’t been in for service. Another Ford recall involves 434,593 Mustangs from the 2005-08 model years. NHTSA found an increased risk of neck injury during airbag deployment in those cars. Interestingly, the risk is greater for smaller females in the front passenger seat who are not wearing their seat belts, and whose seats are moved all the way forward. Who does that, you may ask? Think a bunch of teens all packed into a car. Jeez ladies, buckle up! Oh, and get your car fixed; call 866-436-7332 or go to www.ownerconnection.com for more information.

It’s not just Ford, though: Acura has issued a recall of 273,000 TLs from the 2004-08 model years. There are a couple issues, including a faulty circuit breaker on the windshield wiper motor that could cause it to stop working. The other flaw is a bit more ominous. Pardon me for getting technical on you, but there have been problems with engine heat causing a power-steering hose to crack, causing smoke and potentially fire. No accidents or injuries have been reported in connection with these issues, but it’s better to be safe than exercise your auto-club membership benefits! Acura will fix both problems for free.

If any of these issues affect you, please, go to the dealership and get your cars — and yourselves — taken care of.

Wow, that's a lot of recalls for Ford and Acura. I also read some news about recalls for the Chevy Tahoe with circuits firing up Seville's with faulty Cadillac Seville break pads. Defective safety systems should be fixed as soon as possible before anything worse take place. Airbags, safety belts circuit wirings and several significant parts should be attended by owners and feel free to consult your dealer.
