Singling Out Our Favorite Hybrids

In honor of people’s proclivity to go green for St. Patty’s every March, I thought this would be a good time to give you the lowdown on some of Mother Proof’s favorite hybrids. Who knows? Maybe you’ll get a green car to match those green undies you’re telling people you’re wearing today!

Toyota Highlander Hybrid: Winner of this year’s prestigious Mother Proof Award for Top Family Hybrid, the Hi-Hy is more powerful than its non-hybrid twin. It also offers optional third-row seating for larger crews, and that’s on top of being stylish, practical and easily accommodating all the gear that families travel around with on a daily basis.

Saturn Vue Green Line: This one is great for those of you who have to truck around on the highway, as it gets better gas mileage on the highway than in the city (which is the reverse of most hybrids). Don’t get me wrong, though — it still does well on city streets. It also has a clever cargo management system in the back. With an MSRP that starts just under $25K, how can you go wrong?

Toyota Prius: The most ubiquitous of all hybrids, the Prius has indelibly made its mark on our cultural landscape. This car is great for smaller families, has more storage space than you would think, and you can’t beat the fuel economy — up to 48 mpg. It’s also kind of funky-cool with its futuristic styling.

There are a lot of great hybrids out there. I’ve only mentioned a few, but, truth be told, I love all hybrids and alternative-fuel vehicles because they’re a cool way to ride. Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

Agree with your top two picks, disagree with 3rd pick of theToyota Prius as it's not a IIHS safety gold choice. Moms should be concerned with safety first, then everything else in my opinion. Just my two cents.
