Bumper Stickers

Parental, Gender Wars Fought on Cars

I am categorically against bumper stickers. I’ve never had one on my car and probably never will. Naturally, my convictions in this regard give me license to analyze the bumper stickers I see around town. Come on, even if you’re a bumper-sticker junkie you know you do this too. In fact, you probably do it more given you’re an expert in this arena.

Because this is a presidential election year, political bumper stickers with candidate endorsements are becoming ubiquitous. I appreciate civic engagement, but I always feel bad for those whose bumper-sticker candidates lose. It’s tough to remove those stickers, what with all that super-sticky gunk and all; I saw someone yesterday with a Kerry/Edwards sticker. That was four years ago, dude! At least cover it with a 2008 candidate’s sticker. Sen. Kerry has come to terms with his loss, and so should you.

Otherwise, it seems there’s a war going on between parents of school children. Take, for example, the following stickers:

My child is an honor student at (insert school name here)

My kid beat up your honor student

Your kid may be an honor student, but you’re still an idiot

Hmmm … obviously, some folks are proud of their children, while others see those folks’ pride as a wee bit annoying. It’s a competitive world out there.

That’s nothing, though, compared to the war being waged on car rears between men and women. In just the past couple of weeks I’ve seen stickers that said:

Men are proof that women can take a joke

Few women admit their age, few men act it

I don’t need children – I married one!

PMS: Punish Men Severely

Sometimes I wake up grumpy in the morning, other times I let her sleep

You might notice — as did I — that there are several more female versus male stickers, which got me thinking, do men just not have that much to complain about when it comes to us women? That’s so sweet!

I must admit, there is one bumper sticker I saw that really laid it out perfectly for me: Because I’m the mommy, that’s why! If I ever had to put a sticker on my car, that would be the one I’d choose.

I as a guy don't want a bumper sticker on my car. I chuckle like the next person at those 'whitty' jokes. But the jokes get old quick and definitely wouldn't want it on my car forever. So as a male I have vote down those form of visual comunication. If I want to say something to a female I will and not be passive aggressive about it.

I wouldn't want any bumper sticker because of a simpler reason. I don't want anyone to tail on me that easily.
Best bumper stickers seen:
I am not a dog in heat, stay off my ASS!
Go hunt each other, leave the animals alone.
