Spring Cleaning With On-the-Go Car-Care Products

After the long winter and wet spring, my car is a total disaster. I have long since given up the fight to keep the car tidy using baby wipes and used grocery bags, which is why I am so glad to get a package of Blink … and it’s Done! products to test on my car.

Blink offers five products to help keep the car clean: Smudge Cleaners, for removing dog-nose and kid-finger smudges from windows; Spill Lifters, which are super-absorbent cloths to soak up coffee, juice and any other liquid accident, if you catch my drift; Mess Lifters wet-cloth stain removers; Trash Tossers trash bags; and Tidy Totes mesh tote bags to corral all your stuff in easy-to-see bags. All these items come in containers small enough to fit in your car’s various compartments, and they also have nifty clippy things on them so you can place them in a spot that’s ideal for you—the pocket on the back of your seat, for instance.

You might think I’m crazy for even trying to use these things in a weak effort to maintain my vehicle’s appearance. Let me tell you, it really only takes a moment to use these handy goods, and when I do my life just feels better. My dad is a neat-freak car enthusiast with a giant caddy of car-cleaning supplies in his trunk, and even he appreciates the simplicity of these products.

Unfortunately, the good feelings only lasted for about the first week. My kids then decide to help themselves to 90 percent of all the wet and dry wipes in one fell swoop. Maybe the clips on the backseat aren’t such a good idea after all. A buffet of cleaning products to entertain my kiddos during a trip to the store isn’t exactly what I have in mind. Maybe I can pick up some more while I’m there. In the meantime, my son loves the trash bags, and he has picked up the mess and handily deposited it in the neat white Blink Trash Tosser. Glass half full, people!

Speaking of glass, my favorite product is the Smudge Cleaner. It’s a self-contained unit of spray cleaner and a dry-wipes holder. Clean windows make my car look so much tidier than it actually is, and this is the one item I keep in my glove box permanently. Unfortunately, the rest of the goods have made their way into one of the nice white Trash Tossers and come to rest in the cargo area of my car (aka The Graveyard). My dad’s got a good thing going with that caddy of his; maybe Blink could make a small one to keep all the goods visible and usable in the front seat, but one that’s easily transportable to The Graveyard in the event of a front passenger. A caddy that could hang in the garage would be nice, too.

The only other issue I have is that the Mess Lifters smell like baby powder, and the liquid spilled out of the little box a couple of times, so the smell lingered. I probably don’t have to tell you that I don’t want my car smelling like a nursery, thank you. Overall, I love the idea and some of the products. Sometimes I just don’t want to use baby wipes in tandem with grocery bags to clean up the messes in my life, and Blink’s product line is much more effective.

Just to let you know that Target is having a new price for these products: $2.99 each!! I stocked up obviously. My favourite are the trash bags since my sons now can use it themselves (I have one for each) and less mess in the van overall.
