My parents live about 250 miles from my front door. I’ve made the five-hour trip so many times that I have scoped out the cleanest bathrooms from Denver to Aspen and beyond. I have also found the cleanest restrooms on our regular routes around town; just for the record, Nordstrom is my favorite. Obviously this is an obsession of mine; dirty gas station bathrooms and small people whose feet can’t touch the floor while sitting on the toilet are a bad combination. Nothing is more disgusting to a mom than to watch her child sit down on a public toilet and then place their hand in the split between the “U” of the toilet seat. YUCK.
My germphobia goes further than scouting out clean restrooms, I make my kids sing through their ABC’s while scrubbing their hands, I carry antibacterial gel in my bag at all times and my kids know better than to ask to play at a fast-food restaurant’s indoor playground. I think a little prevention goes a long way when it comes to protecting my kids from all things nasty.
I am thrilled to say that Potty Mitts are a wonderful addition to my arsenal of germ fighters. They are made of a soft, disposable material that keeps germs and moisture off my kids’ hands. They are shaped like little mittens that just slip right on to little hands, and the zip seal pouch is just the right size for my medium sized purse. My kids think it is fun to wear the mitts and I breathe a lot easier when they touch the toilet seat, use the flush handle, or (perish the thought) touch the floor. I even find myself letting them go into the stall all by themselves; what freedom!
I really only have two complaints about the Potty Mitts: I would like them to come in a larger size to fit my 6-year-old a little better, I can probably get her to use them for at least another year and the toddler size just doesn’t quite fit over her whole hand. I also think the little bear design is a little too cutesy for my taste. I guess I would prefer a modern dot or stripe; give me some style, please!
The bottom line is, Potty Mitts are included in my “mommy gear” bag and they are super, even for moms who are slightly less neurotic than me.
