Franklin Covey Cases

We Mother Proofers have a dilemma:  We are women and we travel.  What’s so wrong with that, you ask?  Personally, I’m sick and tired of trekking through the airport sloughing my manly man black wheeled business tote, being mistaken for a college kid with a backback slung on my back, or resulting to draping that old diaper bag over my shoulder in hopes nobody will know what its former life consisted of.  Even though our moms taught us never to judge a book by its cover, lets just face up to reality:  We are all judged by our appearances. In the world of a mom-trepreneur trying to blaze a trail in business, this is more the case than ever.

That’s why I’m so thrilled to discover Franklin Covey’s Jacqueline Wheeled Business Case.  This smart, functional and incredibly good looking red (or brown) leather wheeled case works in a multitude of situations. I can throw in my laptop, notepad, business files, iPod, cell phone, snacks, fluffy socks, mindless magazines, and required cheesy airport gifts for the kids, and still have room to spare. Oh, and it fits perfectly under an airplane seat. Despite the disorganization and chaos that may litter my mind, I still look sharp and put together wheeling this baby through the airport.

If that’s not convincing enough, on a recent trip to Sweden to test drive Volvos, I fended off amorous glances and over-the-top compliments from the tall, gorgeous, fashion forward Swedes on the airline crew. OK, they were all women, and it wasn’t exactly me on the receiving end of the compliments, but rather my bag.

My next request:  Would somebody please develop a line of stretchy, comfortable, yet structured and professional looking travel clothing?  Franklin Covey:  If you want to extend your functionality into the world of travel apparel, give us a call!

Another case from Franklin Covey, the Kimberly, has all the right stuff to earn a Mother Proof Seal of Approval. The bold style and ease of use put this bag in the same league as its sister the Jacqueline.

The Franklin Covey Kimberly Wheeled Case has become my “go-to” bag for short trips especially since the TSA has relaxed its requirements about liquids and gels in carry-on luggage. When traveling for Mother Proof, most trips are either a one or two night jaunt, only a small carry-on is needed. In the front pocket of the Kimberly, I can pack my handy-dandy quart-sized ziplock filled with tiny hair products, toothpaste, and face cream. Then my standard packing checklist ensues… Do I have my Mother Proof shirt and a pair of cords? Check. Do I have some slacks and a nice shirt for dinner? Check. Some Jammies? Check. All my clothing easily fits in the main compartment. Now for my computer, my work files, and my business cards, check, check, check.

All set and the Kimberly has got me going in style. This bag is made of a black woven nylon fabric with light tan leather trim, no more boring black leather. Compliments abound on the train at Denver’s airport and even more come my way at the ticket counter. Even the seasoned flight attendant tells me that she really likes the bag as I hoist it over my head with ease to put it overhead. I am thankful that the Kimberly is easier to lift than my regular sized carry-on. The handle used for rolling tucks neatly inside the bag with a zipper pocket that hides it completely when not in use. The long handles allow me to carry the bag like a briefcase, multifunctional, I love that.

The Kimberly case comes with a removable cell-phone pouch and an adorable zippered wristlet to match. They hold all of my necessities (lip gloss, cash, ID and a little pair of sunglasses) for most trips this means no need to take a purse. The front zipper compartment of the Kimberly has a file-folder divider so I can keep my information sorted while I am on-the-go. Inside the laptop portion of the bag there are pen loops, card pockets, and spaces for my little external hard drive and my power cord. The padded sleeve easily holds a 14-inch or 15-inch laptop. This wheeled case is super-small, it fits like a dream in most airplane overhead bins.

My traveling days are certainly made more fashionable and fun when I have the Kimberly in tow. My only complaint lies in the laptop pouch, which does not accommodate most 15.4-inch widescreens (like mine). Just a tiny bit more space and the problem would have been solved. I do have a simple work-around, however. In the laptop portion there is ample room to slip in a padded laptop sleeve that will keep this larger size computer safe during transport – problem solved! Seal of Approval granted!

I need to buy replacement wheels for the Franklin Covey wheeled case. How do I do that? Can you help? Thanks.
